“Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its trouble
Hello Everyone! During the past months, Christ taught me that I need to surrender control over Him through busyness. I need to stop trying to control and plan my life out how I think he wants me to be living and allow him to be the guide; because he is the one that is in control, and He is the one that wants me to be down here in Guatemala.
The home:
Things in the home have been as loud and crazy as you would expect in a house of 12 under 15 of wonderful special needs kids. From the youngest Ana Elizabeth(Liza) to the oldest Raefel every one of the kids has their own bit of personality to add to the dynamic of the home.
Liza:
For the last 5 months that we have had Liza, she has developed and grown so much. We haven’t gotten her genetics blood test yet but we are pretty much 100% certain that she has Downs Syndrome. She is a very high-functioning Downs baby though. She is learning and developing skills right on schedule as, quote on quote normal babies. She is learning how to make herself known and is learning how to sit up and rolling. She is very vocal. She about that perfect baby unless she’s hungry.
Santi:
Santiago has been with us since last September. He has gained leaps and bounds especially with the rough start he had with life. He is learning how to sit up on his own and also how to be modal. He is one of our loudest kids while also being one of our most emotional. He’s up for some snuggle pretty much whenever you wanted to. He is a very sweet loving child with a defiant streak at times.
Jenny:
Jenny can to us a week after Santi and was very malnourished. Like Liza, we haven’t gotten her genetic blood test but believe she has Downs Syndrome also. We have been trying very very hard to get her to gain weight every since. When she can to us she was not able to keep any food down. She can now keep food down but does not gain as we wish she would. She’s also learned to sit up and learned how to get around by herself. She is a diva like the rest of her Downs sisters and a joy to have in the home.
David:
We call David our forever baby. He is partially blind, has low tone cerebral palsy, and a lot of brain damage. Because of his Cerebral Palsy, he has no control over his body movement. David LOVE human contact. He loves anything from when you spine him in your arms to whispering in his ears, to sneezing. You never own what will make him laugh but his laugh is very infectious. He’s one of the best snugglers you can get.
Kevin:
Kevin is another one of our great snugglers and he Hates to share whoever he is snuggling with. When you get a smile out of him soak it up, he doesn’t just pass them out to anyone. The two people that make him the happiest are Tia Terry and Dick, he was the man that found and took care of Kevin before he came to our home. Kevin doe is trouble eating so we are working on trying to work on opening up his throat if that doesn’t work then he will have surgery to get a feeding tube up in.
Allison:
Allison is the diva of all divas. She has Down Syndrome and is deaf and owns it. She knows how to communicate what she wants and if you don’t figure it out quick enough she’ll just blow you off and walk away. She is learning sign language from Luiggi, one of her favorite people. She goes to school, the ministry has its own school for all the kids under Hope for Home, and is very smart. Allison loves babies and anything that revolves around babies. She is very loving and loves helping out with anything that she can. She and her sister Olimpia have a great friendship when they are bickering.
Olimpia:
Oli is a very sweet and sour, caring, and helpful child; to a fault at times. She absolutely loves her younger sibling, especially the three babies. She goes to school and is learning sign language along with Allison. Except for Allison’s sign teacher, she can communicate best with Allison out of all of us.
Esther:
Esther is way smarter than she lets on. Esther is on the autism spectrum and uses that to her advantage to get away with things. When you find her click she is a very happy girl. She hates loud noise and would prefer to be alone most times.
Ruavis:
Ruavis is or mot fragile child right now. You can’t get a response from him most of the time. Any type of loud noise will frighten him and send him into a seizure. At this point, we are loving and keeping him as comfortable as we can until Jesus calls him home.
Humberto:
Humbert has high tone Cerebral Palsy and is nonverbal, but that doesn’t stop him from trying. He is always trying to talk and work on making sounds. He knows how to make communicate basic things but like Santiago, he is a very emotional child. He feels everyone’s emotions and adjusts to them. If you are sad he will want to help you in any way that he can. He goes to school with his siblings and is very smart.
Cesar:
Cesar is a sweet boy that loves to drive you crazy. If you want to make him happy either talk about food, la volcan, or who through water, that will make his day. Cesar is one of our tougher kids to care for. He knows how to try your patience. And he has definitely help me grow in my patience.
Rafael:
Rafael is capable of doing tons of things if he wanted to. He is a very smart kid that has no interest to learn or try new skills. Anytime you give him something new he’ll most likely toss it instantly or as soon as you turn your back.
The Program:
When Covid hit we had to change the way that we did the program, but starting Monday, 21 of June we started back to the original ay of the program since our whole group was finally all vaccinated. Since starting it has been back to trial and error and trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t. Back when we were doing it the original way we were in a different location so now that we moved, even though it was just down the street, we have to relearn and figure out things.Hello Everyone!
